Collaborative Project Wrap Up Post

Posted by: anderebe on: April 18, 2010

I have enjoyed my time working with Allanah King’s classroom. I got to learn alot from Allanah on the subject of collaborating and I was also was lucky enough to learn from the students about New Zealand. I organized my work into a wiki to be shown to my ECMP 455 class. To view the wiki click here. I was able to try some new tools out to do this project and enjoyed getting the students feedback via Skype which has been a very new program for me this semester.

My first project was an introduction video of myself to the class. I used Final cut pro with the help of a 4th year film student. I found final cut pro really easy to and much easier to cut and splice clips together then Windows Movie Maker. However, the program is very expensive to purchase so it was a nice experience but I think I will have to stick to Imovie or Windows Movie Maker.

My second task was to create a video explaining that I live far away and what I would have to do to come see them. I then asked the question of what we would do when we were there. The students answers were very cute!

My third task was to talk about ways people connect. I created a glog that showed many pictures of ways to connect as well as different audio sections the students could click on.

My fourth activity was to participate in a global flashpoint meeting held by Allanah to talk about how she has connected with many people around the world. She showed many examples that I will take into my classroom and she really demonstrated why a classroom blog can be so important. I was happy to be a part of such a worldwide collaboration!

I have also decided to continue working with Allanah’s class. My next subject I am going to talk about is how we are opposite in seasons and how our seasons are so different. I plan to try a few new tools to do this. I may try voicethread out again but am open to suggestions of tools that you think would best highlight my points for such a young group of kids.

To conclude, I want to thank Allanah and her class as well as Dean Shareski for making the connection for me!
